Harry Styles reveals a spit situation.
At the singer’s concert at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, Styles joked about the viral video that is dividing the internet Don’t worry dearVenice Film Festival premiere: did or didn’t he spit on actor Chris Pine? (Pine’s rep previously told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement that the idea of Styles spitting on Pine was “ridiculous.”)
During Styles’ concert set, the singer and actor, 28, joked that he went “very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine,” according to many fan videos. After the remark, the crowd erupted into applause.
Shortly after Monday Don’t worry dear At the premiere, netizens ran wild with the idea that Styles spat at the Pine actor when he bent down to sit next to the 42-year-old actor.

As the “Watermelon Sugar” singer arrived at Pine, his lips are visible before Pine quickly looked down and stopped clapping — which some believed was him acknowledging the singer had just spat.
On Tuesday, Pine’s rep told PEOPLE, “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of a bizarre online illusion that clearly deceives and allows for foolish speculation.”
“To be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine,” the rep continued. “There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion to the contrary is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

In recent weeks, the film – starring Styles and Florence Pugh, 26, as a 1950s California couple living in a quirky planned suburban community – has been in the headlines for behind-the-scenes turmoil.
Director and actor Wilde said recently Variety interview that he fired original star Shia LaBeouf, who was set to play the role of Styles. However, LaBeouf responded in an email to Varietysaying that he “gave up the film due to lack of rehearsal time”.

That same month, Wilde and Pugh also gave interviews in which they contradicted each other about the importance of Don’t worry dearhis sex scenes. Early reviews of the film have been mixed, with many praising Pugh’s performance.
Don’t worry dear opens in theaters on September 23.
