Chris Pine Denies Harry Styles Spat On Him — And All The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Drama

Don’t worry dear continues to produce a lot of the type.

The Olivia Wilde-directed film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Monday. While Wilde said of the “endless tabloid gossip” surrounding the rumored friction between the cast, headlined by Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, social media is clearly not, as they analyzed every interaction between the co-stars from the weekend’s events . It led to one cast member – Chris Pine – officially denying that Styles spat on him at the premiere.

To support, Shia LaBeouf was originally going to star in the role that eventually went to Styles. There is a discrepancy as to whether Wilde fired LaBeouf (her view) or he resigned (his position). Late last month, LaBeouf delivered to Variety a video that Wilde said sent him asking him to return to the film. In the same video, Wilde addressed the drama between him and Pugh, suggesting that Pugh, who he referred to by the condescending nickname “Miss Flo” needed “a wake-up call” to put her “mind and heart” into the project . Styles went on to win the role. Wilde and her fiance Jason Sudeikis broke up on set and Wilde began dating Styles. Sudeikis handed Wilde physical editing documents while giving a presentation on the film at CinemaCon in the spring. Pugh, who has been critical of the way the film was released, has done very little press for the film and has not specifically said why she has distanced herself from the project, leading to speculation.

That’s where we were on Sunday — press day for Don’t worry dear. Pugh did not attend the press conference or photo call with Wilde explaining to reporters that her film was attached to the shoot Dune: Part Two. However, he said Pugh would make Monday’s premiere and gushed about her performance, calling her “a force” who gave an “amazing” performance.

Wilde was asked directly about the reported rift between them and was dismissive in her response, saying, “As far as all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean the Internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to Think that he is fed quite well.”

An event moderator later interrupted another reporter asking Wilde to spill the beans about what happened to LaBeouf. He added, “I think that question has been answered” — despite the fact that he has not publicly responded to LaBeouf’s claim that he resigned and was not fired.

With all that tension going on, Wilde was also careful not to be photographed next to Styles — who she’s been dating since late 2020 — in Venice. They arrived separately in Italy, taking different boats to events and not standing next to each other for photos. Any photos of them side by side fueled tabloid stories, so they kept their distance. Pine had his work cut out for him to act like a regulator.

On Monday, Pugh announced her arrival in Venice on social media with just two words: “I’m here.”

The actress brought along her grandmother Pat as a co – and it may have been a strategic move, too. After all, maybe there would be less prying questions with her grandmother by her side as she faced the press. Pugh’s arrival – in a purple Valentino outfit – quickly went viral and got a huge buzz.

Pugh joined the cast at the premiere Monday night — in a stunning Valentino gown. The look featured a sheer black corset-like bodice with a shimmering cape and train.

She made such an entrance, even Pine stopped to take it all in – and photograph it. She shared warm greetings with him and her co-stars Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler and Gemma Chan.

On the other hand, she kept a healthy distance from her on-screen husband Styles and Wilde, who stars in the film in addition to directing. In fact, the group photo of them all makes for awkward viewing with Wilde and Styles deliberately standing several feet apart at all times — and neither sharing airspace with Pugh.

Here is a back view as well. Pugh does not touch Wilde. Wilde doesn’t touch Styles.

On the carpet, Pugh was reportedly asked what inspired her in the film and, again, gave an answer that fueled the rift rumors.

“I think it’s very, very inspiring to see a woman push and say ‘no’ and question everything,” she replied. “It’s very exciting to see a woman do that on and off camera.”

While she’s continued to keep her comments vague – and hasn’t cleared up speculation on social media, which she usually does when she’s the target of gossip – Pugh’s stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray stoked the flames good and hard when she posted photos of Pugh at the premiere captioned “Miss Flo” — Wilde’s nickname for Pugh in the video leaked to LaBeouf.

The film was screened and received a four-minute standing ovation. Social media is hotly debating whether or not Pugh recognized Wilde during it.

There was another heated debate about whether Styles spat on Pine in the premiere. And, yes, you read that right – we’re talking about two adults and drool. As Styles sat down, he faced Pine and something unseen made Pine stop clapping, look down at his lap and make a weird face.

The spit-gate debate led Pine to officially deny being spat on. his spokesman said Variety on Tuesday, “This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of a bizarre internet illusion that clearly deceives and allows for silly speculation. To be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between them of the two men and any other suggestion is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply doesn’t exist.”

Pine seemed anxious when doing press at times for this film. Another video of Pine and Styles went viral because Pine looked zoned out as Styles explained to a reporter why he loved doing the thriller, one of his first films as he steps away from pop stardom.

“My favorite thing about the movie is it feels like a movie,” Styles said as Pine stared off into space. “It feels like a real movie. You go to the movie in the theater. The reason you go to watch something on the big screen.”

Twitter users described it as a “Chris Pine stellar display.”

Amidst all this drama, there are also rumors of strain in Wilde and Style’s relationship. The video surfaced with Twitter users claiming that Styles said no when told to stand near Wilde for a photo.

Well maybe – they clearly avoided being photographed together – but they stole little moments, like this one, nonetheless.
