‘The Boys’ Season 4 Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan In Mystery Role, Marking Another ‘Supernatural’ Reunion

Soldier Boy’s dad joins “The Boys” for its fourth season — sort of.

In a move sure to delight “Supernatural” fans, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the cast of Amazon’s superhero series for Season 4, marking yet another reunion between an alum of the long-running CW series and creator Eric Kripke. who is now showrunner of “The Boys”.

“Walking Dead” star Morgan will be a recurring guest star on “The Boys” season four, with details about his character being kept under wraps for now.

On the CW’s now-ending Supernatural, Morgan played John Winchester, the demon-hunting father of Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki), whom he taught the “family business” early on after the death of H their mother Mary (Samantha Smith) at the hands of a yellow-eyed demon in the series’ opening moments.

Morgan is the latest “Supernatural” star to suit up for “The Boys,” with Ackles coming in season three to play the villainous Soldier Boy (who had a nasty streak of toxic masculinity as a result of his relationship with a rejecting father. ) and Jim Beaver, who played Sam and Dean’s surrogate father Bobby Singer on “Supernatural,” having the role of the politician Robert Singer in “The Boys” since its first season.

In Morgan’s case, that casting has been a long time coming, with the actor publicly expressing his excitement for the show on Twitter in 2020 and accepting Kripke’s offer to come on for Season 3 if he was available.

If Kripke continues casting the “Supernatural” reunion, the next big one would be Padalecki, who Kripke previously told Variety he “would love” to come make a cameo.

“He’s always welcome on the show,” Kripke said Variety in an interview on June 8. “By now, the guy is on a network show that has a lot of episodes — like, way more than eight. So he’s been working all year and now he’s producing his spinoff and he’s got a whole empire going on there. He was a busy man. And it was hard to understand that he was free. But if he was single and currently unemployed, I’d put him on ‘The Boys’ in a heartbeat.”

Along with Morgan, newcomers announced for “The Boys” Season 4 include Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward. Production has already begun on the new episodes, led by ‘Boys’ series regulars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Colby Minifie and Claudia Doumit. including.

Morgan is currently starring in the 11th and final season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” as villain Negan, and will next star alongside Lauren Cohan, reprising her “Walking Dead” role as Maggie, in the upcoming spinoff series “Isle of the Dead.”

In addition to his roles on “The Walking Dead” and “Supernatural,” Morgan’s other iconic television roles include playing Denny Duquette on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and Judah Botwin on Showtime’s “Weeds.”
