Ohio State vs Notre Dame Game Preview
Because Notre Dame will win
If it’s possible to go into a matchup like this with little to no pressure in a college football matchup, that’s what Notre Dame faces.
Of course there’s pressure considering how the team couldn’t close out Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl – new coach Marcus Freeman’s debut. Of course the program is supposed to be good enough to win games like this and not just give it the old college try. However, it is Ohio State that is expected to get off the bus and roll with ease.
Even more than that, the weight of the world is on the shoulders of a Buckeye defense coming off a highly disappointing 2021 – relatively speaking.
D was fine by all normal standards, but logic and reason need not apply here.
Ohio State was supposed to play for the national title. He is supposed to win the Big Ten Championship. He’s supposed to beat Michigan. None of those three things happened last season, and the defense took most of the blame.
Enter the Notre Dame offense. He’s great at receiver, has a whale of a tight end in Michael Mayer, and after a year of rebuilding and restarting the line, the payoff is about to come.
On the other hand, Freeman is a defensive coach, coordinator Al Golden knows what he’s doing, and between the big minds in the training room, a strong secondary loaded with NFL talent and an impressive linebacker corps, the defense that can be the H story that comes out of it can wear the uniforms of the street.

Yes, yes, yes – the defense. It’s the Buckeye offense that will be the problem for the Irish.
No one has the talent at Ohio State’s skill position, the offensive line will again be a positive. If CJ Stroud gets time and the offense is balanced, Notre Dame may not be able to keep up the production. Starting quarterback Tyler Buchner should have the game of his life and…

What is going to happen
The Irish defense should be able to hold their own better than many think.
Ohio State will win – the D will actually be better – but it will take some time to break the barrier. Notre Dame would continue to bend without breaking for most of the game, but Stroud would find a groove in two good scoring runs to finally let everyone on the field breathe easier.
