John Corbett may be making a comeback Sex and the city revival And just like that… despite all these.

A Friday report from Deadline sparks fresh speculation that the 61-year-old actor will step back into Aidan Shaw’s well-worn boots. (Representatives for Corbett and HBO Max did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.)

Corbett previously stated in April 2021 that he would reprise his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) ex-fiancé in Season 1 of the revival. But in a different interview with Deadline earlier this year, And just like that… Executive producer Michael Patrick King and writers Elisa Zuritsky and Julie Rottenberg insisted that Corbett’s return was never part of the plan.

“John Corbett should be writing personal notes of apology,” Rothenberg said in the interview after the show’s Season 1 finale. “We didn’t say anything.”

Asked if the Aidan-Carrie narrative is “old news,” King said, “No, there’s nothing old news about Sarah Jessica Parker and John Corbett as actors and beings and interests.”

“The truth is, we never said anything about Aidan, just like we never did, Steve [David Eigenberg] and Carrie [are] let’s get together,” King continued. “We always try to be very low-key and look at the reality of what people are going through and it’s got nothing to do with Aidan coming or not. I really felt like that was a lot for Carrie.”

Added King, “This season has been a lot. We wanted to bring it to the light — the last episode is called ‘Seeing the Light’. We wanted to bring it out.” [Aidan’s return] it’s a big story that everyone at home wrote that we never intended.”
